When should you choose PNG over JPG?
PNG is lossless: once the image is decoded, saving it as PNG does not add any new compression artifacts. That makes it a better starting point if you will crop, retouch or composite the photo in an editor.
The trade-off is size. A PNG made from a photo is often five to ten times larger than the HEIC original. If you only need to share or upload the picture, HEIC to JPG is the smaller choice.

Are my photos uploaded to your server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using your own device. Your files are never sent to us or to any third party, which is why it also works for private photos and large batches. Once the page has finished loading you can even switch off your internet connection and the tool keeps working.
Does PNG keep transparency from HEIC?
Photos taken with the iPhone camera have no transparency. If your HEIC contains an alpha channel, it is preserved in the PNG.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC uses modern lossy compression, PNG uses lossless compression. Lossless storage of photographic detail needs far more bytes.
