When to convert an image to JPG
JPG is the format that every phone, program, website form and printer accepts. If an upload is rejected, an editor will not open a file, or you need a smaller file for a photograph, JPG is the safe choice.
Choose JPG for photographs. For logos, screenshots with small text or graphics that need transparency, PNG keeps them sharper.
What happens to transparency and animation
JPG cannot be transparent, so transparent areas turn white. Animated GIF or WebP files are converted to a single still frame, the first one.
