Why choose PNG
PNG is lossless, so saving to PNG does not add more compression damage and suits editing, screenshots, diagrams and logos. It also supports transparency.
The price is size: PNG photographs are several times larger than JPG. Use PNG when quality or transparency matters more than file size.
A note on quality
Converting an existing JPG to PNG cannot restore detail that JPG already discarded. You get a lossless copy of the picture as it is now.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to your server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using your own device. Your files are never sent to us or to any third party, which is why it also works for private photos and large batches. Once the page has finished loading you can even switch off your internet connection and the tool keeps working.
Will my PNG have a transparent background?
Only if the original had one (for example a WebP, GIF, AVIF or SVG with transparency). A JPG never has transparency to begin with.
