What is a JFIF file?
JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) is the container that ordinary JPEG pictures have used since the 1990s. A .jfif file is therefore a JPEG image with a different extension, which some browsers and Windows versions used to save images as.
The picture inside is fine. The problem is only the extension: many websites, apps and upload forms check it and reject anything that is not .jpg or .jpeg.
How to convert JFIF to JPG
Add your .jfif files, press Convert and download the .jpg files. Each picture is re-saved at the quality you choose, so keep it at 90% or higher to avoid visible loss.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to your server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using your own device. Your files are never sent to us or to any third party, which is why it also works for private photos and large batches. Once the page has finished loading you can even switch off your internet connection and the tool keeps working.
Can't I just rename the file?
Often yes, because a JFIF file is a JPEG already. Converting also works for many files at once and guarantees a clean, standard JPG.
Why does Windows save pictures as JFIF?
Some versions of Windows and some browsers associate the JPEG type with the .jfif extension when saving images from the web.
